Tottenham eye second Liverpool signing after Andy Robertson as major transfer chain reaction looms

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to land a second Liverpool player after securing Andy Robertson’s arrival, and the move could trigger a major transfer chain reaction across Europe.

Spurs officially confirmed on Friday that Robertson will join the club on July 1 once his Liverpool contract expires. The Scotland captain leaves Anfield after nine years and nine trophies, with his departure having been anticipated since it was announced before the final Premier League game of the season.

Liverpool are reportedly not planning to replace Robertson, opting instead to retain Kostas Tsimikas after his season-long loan spell at Roma.

However, Tottenham’s pursuit of another Liverpool star could have a much bigger impact. Dutch outlet SoccerNews.nl claims Spurs are interested in forward Cody Gakpo and are preparing to make a move.

Although Gakpo signed a long-term contract extension last summer, reports suggest he recently handed in a transfer request. The Dutch international is said to be uncertain about his future following Arne Slot’s dismissal, with Andoni Iraola taking charge at Anfield on Thursday.

As one of Slot’s most trusted players, Gakpo featured heavily last season, starting 33 Premier League matches.

A potential sale would also give Liverpool greater flexibility in the transfer market. The club are reportedly interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who carries a £120 million valuation, while Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the highly-rated Ivory Coast international.

Should PSG fail to secure Diomande, they could switch their attention to Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. Barcelona have already shown interest in Alvarez, a pursuit that has publicly irritated Atletico.

The ripple effect could eventually reach Manchester United. Marcus Rashford is due to return to Old Trafford when his Barcelona loan expires on June 30, but if Barca miss out on Alvarez, they may accelerate efforts to sign Rashford permanently.

Such a scenario would hand United additional funds to strengthen their squad this summer under manager Michael Carrick.
