Liverpool are stepping up their efforts to sign Yan Diomande this summer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Reds are in a strong position to move for the highly-rated winger following Mo Salah’s exit.
Paris Saint-Germain remain interested in the Ivory Coast international, but the French giants are currently focused on resolving the futures of several first-team players, including Bradley Barcola. As things stand, Liverpool appear to have the upper hand in the race for the RB Leipzig star.
Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano described Diomande as one of the most exciting young wingers available. He highlighted the rarity of players who combine youth, pace, dribbling ability, goals, and assists, explaining why both Liverpool and PSG are eager to secure his signature.
According to Romano, Liverpool are making a major push to complete the deal and view Diomande as one of their top priorities. The club is reportedly prepared to offer the player a significant financial package to convince him to move to Anfield. PSG, meanwhile, remain in contention, but their ability to advance depends on potential departures involving players such as Barcola, Gonçalo Ramos, and Lee Kang-in.
Liverpool’s need for attacking reinforcements has become increasingly urgent. With Salah gone and Federico Chiesa also linked with an exit, the Reds risk being left short of options on the right wing. As a result, strengthening that area has become a key objective for the summer transfer window.
Although Diomande is expected to command a fee well above €100 million, Liverpool view him as both a long-term solution and a player capable of making an immediate impact. While sporting director Richard Hughes and the recruitment team may have preferred to wait another year before making a move, growing competition for the player could force their hand.
PSG remain interested, and there is a belief that clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester City could enter the race in the future. Liverpool therefore face increasing pressure to secure the deal sooner rather than later.
Reports suggest that Leipzig are now demanding around £120 million for the 19-year-old. While that valuation appears extremely high, the Bundesliga club are under no pressure to sell, especially with Diomande contracted for another four years and his value likely to rise further after the World Cup.
As things stand, Liverpool find themselves in a difficult negotiating position, with Leipzig holding most of the leverage in talks over one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.
