Tottenham’s hopes of signing Morgan Gibbs-White have been thrown into doubt again, with fresh reports suggesting key behind-the-scenes talks could determine the midfielder’s future.
Spurs have revived their interest in the Nottingham Forest star after failing to land him last summer. Although Tottenham triggered his release clause at the time, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis stepped in and persuaded Gibbs-White to remain at the club by outlining his long-term vision.
Now, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes history could repeat itself.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Gibbs-White wants assurances that Forest are committed to strengthening the squad and challenging for European football. According to him, those discussions could persuade the England international to reject Tottenham once again.
Wyness also questioned whether Spurs are the ideal next step, arguing that Roberto De Zerbi is still building his project and suggesting Tottenham may not yet have the financial strength to compete with the league’s elite.
He added that Marinakis is likely to play another decisive role, just as he did last year, and believes Gibbs-White will only consider leaving if he feels Forest’s ambitions no longer match his own. If the club backs its promises with significant investment, staying at the City Ground could remain the most attractive option.
With no decision made yet, the ongoing talks between Gibbs-White and Forest’s hierarchy are expected to have a major influence on whether Tottenham can finally secure his signature this summer.
