Tonali Willing to Join Spurs as Newcastle Stare Down a Summer of Doubt

Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their efforts to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with reports indicating the Italian international is receptive to a move to North London if the clubs can reach an agreement.

Spurs are said to have already engaged in encouraging talks with Tonali’s camp, with personal terms unlikely to pose a significant obstacle. The greater challenge, however, lies in persuading Newcastle to part with one of their most important midfield assets.

The Magpies are reported to have turned down an opening offer in the region of £75–80 million, making clear that any interested party will need to exceed £100 million to stand a chance of signing the 26-year-old, who has established himself as a central figure at the club since his arrival from AC Milan.

Tottenham’s pursuit is being spearheaded by new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who sees Tonali as the perfect fit to anchor his midfield rebuild ahead of the upcoming campaign. De Zerbi wants a technically sharp, high-energy midfielder capable of dictating play and raising Spurs’ overall level of competitiveness.

Newcastle’s worries don’t end with Tonali. The club faces a potentially turbulent window, with captain Bruno Guimarães also drawing strong interest from Arsenal. Several players are reportedly weighing up their futures following a disappointing season, raising the prospect of a broader squad exodus.

While Tottenham appear to be at the front of the queue, they are unlikely to have an uncontested run at the Italy international. Manchester City and Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on developments, and Tonali has been linked with a possible return to former club AC Milan.

Spurs, meanwhile, continue to be busy in the market as they press ahead with their squad overhaul. Having already bolstered their defensive options, the club is also keeping tabs on alternative midfield targets in case talks over Tonali stall.

For Newcastle, the weeks ahead could be decisive. Despite their determination to hold on to their key players, mounting interest from top-flight rivals means difficult decisions may be unavoidable if substantially improved bids land on their desk.

Newcastle are standing firm on their valuation for now, but with Tottenham pushing hard to land one of Europe’s most highly-regarded midfielders, this transfer saga looks set to run deep into the summer window.
