Former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has urged Spurs to make a move for Victor Osimhen before Arsenal have the chance to secure his signature.

Tottenham Urged to Make Victor Osimhen Their Next Big Signing After £185m Spending Spree

Tottenham Hotspur have made a major statement in the transfer market this summer, breaking their club record twice with the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. With the duo reportedly costing a combined £185 million, Spurs have demonstrated their ambition to rebuild the squad and compete among the Premier League’s elite.

However, one key position still appears to need strengthening — a clinical No. 9 capable of consistently converting chances into goals.

Former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld believes that should be the club’s next priority, with the Belgian encouraging Spurs to make a bold move for Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian striker, who has been linked with Napoli and Galatasaray, could provide the goals Tottenham lacked last season. Alderweireld believes Spurs need a proven goalscorer rather than simply adding another versatile attacker.

Tottenham have already strengthened across the pitch, bringing in Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka, while Tonali and Fernandes have added significant quality to midfield.

But their attacking options could ultimately determine whether their ambitious rebuild delivers the desired results.

Osimhen Could Be the Final Piece

Spurs have been linked with several attacking players this summer, including Manchester City’s Savinho, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Chelsea’s Pedro Neto.

While all three would bring quality, Alderweireld believes Tottenham should focus on securing a genuine goalscorer.

“Spurs could use a striker like Victor Osimhen, they need his goals because it’s what they lacked last season as well,” Alderweireld said in an interview with Hajper.

Osimhen’s profile makes him an attractive option. His pace, strength, aerial ability and finishing make him one of the most dangerous centre-forwards in European football.

For a Tottenham side looking to challenge near the top of the Premier League, adding a striker of his calibre could completely transform their attack.

Experience Could Be Crucial

Alderweireld also acknowledged that Osimhen is older than some of the young forwards being targeted by Europe’s biggest clubs.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs looking for younger attacking stars who can lead their teams for years to come.

But Alderweireld believes Tottenham should not focus solely on age.

Instead, Spurs should combine promising youngsters with experienced players who can make an immediate impact.

That approach could be particularly valuable given the number of young talents already in Tottenham’s squad.

Taking Inspiration From Ajax

Alderweireld pointed to his time at Ajax as an example of how experienced stars and young talents can thrive together.

During his Ajax career, he witnessed experienced players such as Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind alongside emerging stars including Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.

That mixture of youth and experience helped create a highly successful team.

Tottenham could look to follow a similar blueprint by surrounding their promising youngsters with proven stars capable of delivering immediately — and Osimhen would certainly fit that profile.

Spurs Urged to Go All-In

Having already invested around £185 million on Tonali and Fernandes, expectations surrounding Tottenham’s summer rebuild are now extremely high.

Supporters will want those major investments to translate into results, and adding an elite striker could be the move that completes the transformation.

Savinho, Gakpo and Neto could add creativity and versatility, but a ruthless No. 9 like Osimhen would directly address one of Spurs’ biggest weaknesses.

Alderweireld’s message is clear: Tottenham have already gone big this summer, so why stop now?

If Spurs can pull off a deal for Victor Osimhen, their ambitious rebuild could become even more formidable — and expectations around north London would rise significantly.
