Tottenham Hotspur are said to be eyeing a “phenomenal” Champions League–level defender who is attracting interest from several Premier League rivals, as doubts continue to surround Micky van de Ven’s future in North London.
The Dutch centre-back has been one of Spurs’ most reliable performers this season, making 29 appearances in all competitions. However, reports suggest he is unwilling to sign a new deal while Thomas Frank remains in charge. Transfer insider Dean Jones warned that despite Van de Ven’s consistency and quality, Tottenham could lose him if they fail to clearly sell their long-term vision.
Pressure is mounting on Frank after Spurs managed just one win in their last eight games in all competitions, with the recent 2–1 loss to a struggling West Ham proving especially costly. While Tottenham hope Van de Ven may rethink his stance if a high-profile manager is appointed, the club is already assessing alternative centre-back targets.
One such option is Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu. As reported by Tutto Juve via Sport Witness, Spurs have now joined the race for the 25-year-old, with a summer move more likely than a January deal. Aston Villa and Manchester United are also tracking Kalulu, who is valued at around €30m (£26m), although Juventus’ stance on a sale is still unclear.
Kalulu’s appeal lies in his versatility, with the ability to operate at centre-back or right-back. Scout Jacek Kulig has labelled him “phenomenal.” The France-born defender has featured 28 times for Juventus this season, registering one goal and four assists, and playing a role in four clean sheets from their last seven Serie A games. He has also made six Champions League appearances.
While Kalulu would add depth and quality to Spurs’ defence — especially amid scrutiny on Pedro Porro — securing Van de Ven’s long-term future remains Tottenham’s top priority given his importance this season.
