Tottenham supporters are increasingly confident that Mauricio Pochettino could be set for a sensational return to the club in the near future.
During his previous spell in charge, the Argentine guided Spurs to their first-ever Champions League final and oversaw their highest Premier League finish in the 2015–16 season. Football Insider reported in January that Pochettino is “definitely” on Tottenham’s shortlist should the club decide to move on from Thomas Frank.
Frank remains under heavy pressure in North London, and recent actions from Pochettino have reignited speculation. It was also revealed earlier this year that the former Spurs boss would be open to a return if the opportunity arose, having never hidden his affection for the club.
That fondness was on display again on Thursday when Pochettino shared an Instagram story featuring himself with Spurs legend Osvaldo Ardiles. He captioned the photo “COYS,” a move that sent fans into overdrive and intensified talk of a possible comeback.
While Tottenham’s hierarchy are still backing Frank for now, discussions about a potential managerial change have not gone away. Pochettino’s post has only added fuel to the rumours, with fans on X interpreting it as a clear sign of his desire to return. Some supporters claimed he “wants the job so badly,” while others insisted that his comeback is inevitable, with one even saying he is “100 per cent coming back in the summer.”
However, Football Insider recently reported that Spurs have “no chance” of appointing Pochettino until after this summer’s World Cup, as he is preparing to lead the USA at the tournament on home soil. He is expected to remain in the role until the team are knocked out, with the final scheduled for 19 July.
Although his contract runs out after the competition, a deep run by the USA could severely disrupt Tottenham’s plans for the 2026–27 season, potentially leaving them without a manager during a crucial preparation period. This uncertainty may be another reason why the club are continuing to place their trust in Frank for the time being.
If Spurs are serious about pursuing Pochettino in the summer, they are likely to want firm assurances that he would commit to the role before the World Cup begins.
