Omar Marmoush Faces Immediate Tottenham Setback
Omar Marmoush is expected to enjoy more regular Premier League football after completing his proposed £60million move from Manchester City to Tottenham. The 27-year-old made only eight league starts for City last season and is set to sign a five-year contract with Spurs.
However, Marmoush will face an immediate issue upon his arrival in north London: his preferred No. 7 shirt is already occupied by Xavi Simons.
The Egyptian forward wore No. 7 at both Eintracht Frankfurt and City, making the number his preferred choice. His alternative No. 29 is also unavailable at Tottenham, with Pape Matar Sarr currently wearing it.
One option could be No. 22, which is currently vacant. Marmoush previously wore the number during his loan spell at St Pauli in the 2020/21 season, scoring seven goals in 21 appearances.
Another possibility is No. 32, which has been unused at Spurs since Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s departure more than a decade ago.
Marmoush is expected to undergo his Tottenham medical on Thursday after financial terms were agreed earlier in the week. He will become the second Manchester City player to join Spurs in quick succession following Savio’s arrival in a deal worth up to £85million.
Despite Tottenham’s difficult start to the season, including a heavy defeat to Brentford, Marmoush will be hoping to make an immediate impact after Spurs responded with a convincing 5-1 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton Athletic.
