Tottenham Plot Late £24m Swoop for Premier League Full-Back
Tottenham are reportedly preparing a late move for Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams as they look to strengthen their full-back options before the transfer window closes.
The Lilywhites have already reshaped the position this summer, bringing in former Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson following Djed Spence’s move to Inter Milan. Roberto De Zerbi’s squad currently includes Robertson, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie as the main options at full-back.
Ben Davies can also fill in when required, although the experienced defender is approaching the latter stages of his career and has entered the final year of his contract.
Tottenham also signed Souza from Santos last winter, but the youngster has struggled to establish himself as a regular under De Zerbi. Andrey Gray has recently been used at right-back to provide cover for Porro, despite naturally being a midfielder.
As a result, Spurs appear keen to add another versatile full-back. Football Insider claim Tottenham are interested in Williams and could make a late proposal to see whether Forest can be tempted into selling.
The 25-year-old is reportedly valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt and remains under contract with Forest until 2029. That means the Tricky Trees are under no immediate pressure to cash in on the Welsh international.
Williams is a naturally right-footed defender who is capable of operating on either flank. His pace, crossing ability and defensive work make him an attractive option for Tottenham.
Williams’ Potential Tottenham Move
Williams came through Liverpool’s academy but found opportunities in the first team limited. His move to Nottingham Forest allowed him to play more regularly and continue developing his game.
Although he needed time to adapt after arriving at Forest, the Welshman has gradually established himself as an important player. Last season, he made 53 appearances across all competitions, registering six goal contributions while helping Forest record 14 clean sheets.
At 25, Williams is entering the prime years of his career and could represent a smart addition for Spurs if they manage to complete a deal.
The big question now is whether Tottenham will turn their reported interest into a formal offer before the transfer window shuts.
