The Merseyside derby produced another dramatic finish as Liverpool FC claimed a thrilling 2-1 win over Everton FC at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Liverpool approached the game intent on securing all three points on the road and began with confidence. Their early play was controlled and purposeful, as they repeatedly tested Everton’s defence. The breakthrough arrived in the 29th minute when Mohamed Salah calmly finished to give the visitors a deserved lead. It capped a strong first-half display, with Arne Slot’s side heading into the break 1-0 up.
Everton responded after the restart with greater intensity and found an equaliser in the 54th minute through Beto. The goal shifted the momentum, forcing Liverpool to step up again as the match became more open and competitive, with chances at both ends.
Just as the game looked set to end level, Liverpool struck late. Virgil van Dijk rose above everyone in stoppage time to power home a decisive header, sealing a dramatic victory and underlining his influence in both defence and attack.
Individually, Giorgi Mamardashvili performed solidly in goal with several key saves before being forced off through injury. Ibrahima Konaté delivered a composed defensive display, while Van Dijk combined leadership at the back with his match-winning goal. Andy Robertson contributed defensively and going forward when needed.
In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch added energy, and Dominik Szoboszlai provided creativity along with an assist. Further up the pitch, Florian Wirtz created opportunities but couldn’t convert, while Cody Gakpo impressed and also registered an assist. Alexander Isak, however, struggled to make a significant impact.
From the bench, Freddie Woodman looked reliable when called upon, and Rio Ngumoha showed encouraging signs after his introduction. In the end, it was a hard-earned and dramatic win that highlighted Liverpool’s resilience in one of football’s fiercest rivalries.
