Arne Slot must drop struggling Liverpool F.C. player as his time at Anfield appears to be over.

Concerns around Alexis Mac Allister extend beyond individual mistakes to the team’s overall performance when he starts. Some supporters and analysts argue that Liverpool appear more energetic and balanced when alternative midfield options are used, raising questions about whether Arne Slot should rethink his selections.

Despite growing criticism, Mac Allister continues to feature regularly, prompting suggestions that Slot may be showing loyalty to certain players. While consistency can be valuable, many believe current form should be the deciding factor—especially for a team aiming to compete at the highest level.

With ambitions of challenging for major honours, Liverpool may soon face tough calls regarding underperforming players. Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, there are increasing calls for the club to consider parting ways with Mac Allister. His dip in form has likely reduced his market value, a stark contrast to the high regard he enjoyed just a year ago.

Since joining in 2023, the Argentine was a key figure in Liverpool’s midfield, known for his composure and technical quality. However, during the 2025–26 season, his performances have declined noticeably, with concerns over his impact and consistency.

Once praised for controlling games, he has at times struggled with the pace and intensity, appearing less mobile and slower to react in crucial moments. His involvement has also led to misplaced passes and turnovers that disrupt the team’s flow.

A defining example came in a recent defeat, where his failed clearance allowed Kobbie Mainoo to seize possession and score from outside the box. While not solely responsible for the loss, the incident has come to symbolize his current struggles.

Journalist Aadam Patel reacted with disbelief, noting that although Mainoo’s finish was impressive, the situation should never have developed. In his view, Mac Allister had ample opportunity to clear the danger but failed, contributing to another avoidable goal.

Last summer, Mac Allister could reportedly have commanded a fee of around £70–80 million. Now, after a difficult season, Liverpool may struggle to attract even £40 million. With long-standing interest from Real Madrid and ongoing links to new midfield targets, this could be a logical time to consider a sale.

Selling him could free up funds to strengthen the squad or even facilitate a deal involving players like Aurélien Tchouaméni or Eduardo Camavinga, both linked with potential moves away from the Bernabéu.

Ultimately, any decision will depend on incoming offers and Liverpool’s long-term strategy. For now, attention may need to shift to team selection. Temporarily dropping Mac Allister could give him a chance to rediscover form while allowing others to step in.

Such a move would underline that performance matters and that no position is guaranteed, while also helping Liverpool restore balance and improve results.
