Tottenham Hotspur claimed consecutive league wins for the first time since August with a 2–1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday evening.
Strikes from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison secured all three points, lifting Spurs out of the relegation zone following West Ham United’s loss to Brentford a day earlier.
The result also reinforced Tottenham’s impressive record at Villa Park, where they have now won nine of their last eleven Premier League visits.
Gallagher shines in standout performance
Although several Spurs players delivered strong displays, Conor Gallagher emerged as the standout performer. In addition to finding the net, his overall contribution proved vital in driving the team to victory against Unai Emery’s side.
Speaking on TNT Sports, former Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle praised Gallagher’s influence, highlighting his energy, pressing, and ability on the ball.
He said: “Absolutely, because he uses the ball well. He’s not a typical number ten, but he’s effective in possession. His pressing and work rate set the standard for the rest of the team.
“I mentioned before the game that players need to look at each other and believe they can make the difference. If everyone adopts that mindset, performances follow.
“There wasn’t a poor display from Tottenham today — most were at a very high level — but Gallagher set the tone and capped it off with his first goal for the club, which is a special moment for him.”
Focus remains crucial in relegation fight
The victory provides a significant boost for Tottenham as they edge clear of the drop zone, but the battle for survival remains tight.
With just one point separating Spurs from West Ham, any slip-up — combined with a positive result for their rivals — could see them fall back into the bottom three.
