Spurs captain urges club to sign record-breaking striker as Premier League reunion beckons

Micky van de Ven has given Harry Kane a glowing endorsement, naming the England captain as the player he would bring back to Tottenham if he had full control of the club’s transfer business. The comments will resonate with Spurs fans as the team looks for a lift during a difficult domestic campaign under Roberto De Zerbi.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Van de Ven was asked which player in world football he would sign if any deal were possible. The Dutch centre-back barely hesitated, picking Kane straight away. He pointed to the striker’s reliable goalscoring, saying he can be counted on for around 30 goals a season, and called him the greatest player in Tottenham’s history.

It is a telling show of respect, given that Van de Ven only joined in the summer of 2023, shortly before Kane left for Bayern Munich, and barely overlapped with him in the dressing room. Even so, the defender clearly appreciates what Kane could add to De Zerbi’s side, and a return would be a major boost for a team trying to compete at the top level.

Kane’s legacy at the club speaks for itself. A product of the Spurs academy, he grew into Tottenham’s main attacking figure, combining sharp finishing with clever movement and an eye for creating chances. He scored 280 goals in all competitions, overtaking Jimmy Greaves as the club’s record scorer, and netted 213 in the Premier League, which puts him second on the competition’s all-time list behind Alan Shearer.

He also won the Premier League Golden Boot three times, in 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2020/21. That last season was especially memorable, as he finished as both the league’s top scorer and its leading assist provider. Despite all that, he left in 2023 without a major trophy at Spurs, ending an era and leaving the club without the striker who had carried so much of its attacking burden.

Since moving to Germany, Kane has kept scoring at an exceptional rate, cementing his place among the best centre-forwards of his generation. Van de Ven’s words are another reminder of the affection Kane still enjoys at Tottenham, and for fans who dream of seeing their former captain come home, they offer a fresh glimpse of what he could bring to the current squad.
