Liverpool Open to Selling Winger This Summer as Two European Heavyweights Circle €25 Million Target

Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool appears to be drawing to a close, with the Reds reportedly open to selling the Italian winger this summer.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are seeking around €25 million for the 28-year-old, with Juventus and Napoli both emerging as potential suitors. Chiesa remains under contract at Anfield, but his spell in England has never quite lived up to expectations.

He arrived from Juventus in 2024 in a deal worth £10 million plus add-ons, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract. At the time, it was widely viewed as an astute, low-risk move — a player of clear quality available for a modest outlay.

The reality, however, has been underwhelming. Chiesa has never nailed down a regular starting berth, producing occasional bright moments without ever truly forcing his way into Liverpool’s attacking plans. Across the 2025/26 season he has largely been used as an impact substitute, contributing two goals and one assist — the numbers of a fringe player rather than a first-choice attacker.

That is a problem for a player who will turn 29 this year and is firmly in what should be the prime years of his career. Sporadic cameos off the bench offer little of the rhythm or consistency he needs to perform at his best.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the financial logic is straightforward. Having acquired him for a relatively small fee, recouping around €25 million would represent a healthy return. It would also allow Arne Slot to free up squad space and reshape his attacking options following a difficult season that included a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa in one of their final outings — a result that underlined the scale of the rebuild required.

A return to Juventus carries an obvious appeal given Chiesa’s familiarity with the club and Italian football. Napoli would be an equally logical destination for a versatile wide forward with the experience and ability to operate on either flank in big matches.

The Premier League move was never a disaster, but it never really suited him either. Some transfers look sound in theory and simply fail to click in practice — and Chiesa’s stint at Liverpool may ultimately be remembered as exactly that.
