Aston Villa are said to be in the market for fresh midfield options this summer, with Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall reportedly among their targets.
The 20-year-old Swede has also been linked with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Bayern Munich as talk over his future continues to grow. Reports suggest Bergvall himself would welcome a move away from Spurs in search of regular football, though Tottenham are said to have made clear he isn’t up for sale.
Speaking after Sweden’s 3-0 World Cup last-32 exit to France — a match he started — Bergvall addressed his club future when questioned by Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, via FootballLondon. He said his focus was on securing steady game time in his position, adding that he’d wait to see how things unfold since his attention up to now had been solely on the World Cup.
He struck a similarly noncommittal tone throughout the tournament when pressed on his long-term plans in England, reiterating that his mind had been on the World Cup and that he wasn’t yet sure what would happen next.
His path to regular minutes at Tottenham looks increasingly blocked following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, both of whom have bolstered Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield options and pushed Bergvall further down the order. He’s started just once and played only 112 minutes in total since De Zerbi took charge in March. His contract at the club runs until 2031.
