Curtis Jones has rejoined Liverpool’s training sessions ahead of the Champions League clash with PSG, according to reports from Paul Joyce and James Pearce.
The midfielder was substituted at half-time during Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Fulham on Saturday after picking up a suspected groin problem. At the time, Arne Slot raised doubts about whether he would be fit enough to feature on Tuesday night.
Jones gives Liverpool a timely fitness boost
However, Joyce and Pearce reported on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday that Jones has now returned to training with the squad.
It remains to be seen whether Slot and Liverpool’s medical team will consider him ready to play any part in the second leg, but his recovery is certainly positive news.
Even so, the expected midfield trio remains Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai, as used in the first leg.
What next for Slot against PSG?
While Jones being back is encouraging, his involvement is likely to be limited at best, possibly only from the bench if he is deemed fit enough.
Attention now turns to how Slot will approach the decisive tie at Anfield. There is an argument for a more attacking setup, with suggestions that Rio Ngumoha could be used on the left to add pace and directness.
If Liverpool stick with a cautious approach similar to the first leg, their chances of reaching the semi-finals could be in serious doubt.
