New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has reportedly placed a Bournemouth star among the top names on his transfer shortlist as he begins planning for life at Anfield.
The Spaniard was officially unveiled as Liverpool’s new head coach on Thursday, replacing Arne Slot following the Dutchman’s exit. Although Liverpool have yet to disclose the details of his contract, reports indicate that Iraola has agreed to a two-year deal.
After his appointment, Iraola spoke through the club’s official media channels but is not expected to hold a full press conference until later this summer.
Liverpool are gearing up for a significant rebuilding process after ending last season in fifth place in the Premier League. The Reds have already seen Andy Robertson join Tottenham Hotspur, while Mohamed Salah departed after mutually terminating his contract.
As preparations for the summer transfer window intensify, Iraola is believed to be eager to reunite with one of his former Bournemouth players.
Reports suggest Liverpool are targeting Bournemouth winger Rayan, who has impressed since arriving from Vasco da Gama in January. The Brazilian youngster scored five goals in 15 Premier League appearances and quickly established himself as one of the league’s most promising talents.
His strong form earned him a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad under Carlo Ancelotti, and Iraola is said to be a big admirer of the 19-year-old. However, Bournemouth are reluctant to part with him, meaning a move may not be possible until January when a substantial release clause in his contract becomes active.
Liverpool are also keeping tabs on highly-rated striker Eli Junior Kroupi. The teenage forward enjoyed an excellent season and has attracted interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City, which could make any deal difficult to complete.
In addition, the Reds continue to monitor RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals and establishing himself as one of Europe’s brightest young attackers. Liverpool have reportedly made enquiries about a potential transfer, although Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be competing for his signature.
