Spurs Star Djed Spence BREAKS World Cup Speed Record – Fans in DISBELIEF as He Blazes Past Mbappe!

Spurs have 11 players on World Cup duty across the US, Mexico, and Canada this summer, each chasing a shot at glory on the game’s grandest platform — the kind of moment captain Cristian Romero lived out when he lifted the trophy with Argentina back in 2022.

The tournament has barely got going and the final is still weeks off, but one Tottenham man has already left his mark on the record books — and it only took him one appearance.

Spence Clocked Among the World Cup’s Quickest

Pace has always been a Tottenham trademark, and that’s still the case heading into this tournament.

Micky van de Ven remains the club’s resident speedster and one of the quickest operators in the Premier League, owner of the league’s all-time fastest recorded sprint at a blistering 37.38 km/h (23.23 mph).

Now it’s Djed Spence turning heads on the world stage. BBC Sport has him inside the top ten fastest players from the World Cup’s opening matchday, hitting a top speed of 35.2 km/h to share seventh spot in the sprint charts.

What makes it stand out: Spence only managed ten minutes off the bench against Croatia to register that mark.

Spence and Son Leave Mbappe Trailing

Joining Spence in seventh is former Spurs winger Son Heung-min, now flying the flag for South Korea, also clocking 35.2 km/h — enough to edge out France’s Kylian Mbappe, who sits ninth at 35.1 km/h.

Portugal’s Pedro Neto rounds out the top ten at 34.8 km/h.

At the summit, Australia’s Jordan Bos tops the charts with a scorching 36.7 km/h, with Erling Haaland and Abdukodir Khusanov tied just behind on 36.5 km/h. Mohamed Toure (35.8 km/h), Ryan Gravenberch (35.6 km/h), and Alan Minda (35.5 km/h) complete the chasing pack ahead of Spence and Son.
