Lucas Bergvall has handed Tottenham a major headache after informing the club he wants out this summer, with Chelsea among the sides keeping close tabs on the Swedish midfielder.
The 18-year-old only arrived from Djurgården in 2024 and signed a contract extension as recently as April last year — leaving five years still on his deal. But despite that show of commitment, Bergvall has made clear he’s ready for a new challenge.
It’s a bitter pill for Spurs, who are already facing life without European football next season after a difficult 17th-place finish in the Premier League.
Who Wants Him?
Chelsea are at the front of the queue, but they’re not alone. Aston Villa have retained their interest after a failed January approach, while Nottingham Forest are eyeing Bergvall as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson — who is on the verge of completing a £121 million move to Manchester City.
Both Chelsea and Villa had winter bids firmly rejected by Spurs, and the club will no doubt be reluctant to let him go again.
The Bergvall File
Since moving to North London, Bergvall has racked up 78 first-team appearances, contributing two goals and nine assists — including a role in Spurs’ Europa League triumph in 2025. He made 33 outings last season alone, and has already featured twice for Sweden at this summer’s World Cup.
Busy Window at Spurs
The Bergvall saga comes amid a hectic summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Robertson, Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke have all arrived, while moves for Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes are also being explored — with De Zerbi clearly determined to reshape this squad from top to bottom.
