Liverpool handed major Mac Allister lifeline as father rules out Anfield exit

Liverpool have every reason to breathe easy over Alexis Mac Allister after his father, Carlos Mac Allister, shut down talk of a summer exit.

Despite mounting reports linking the midfielder with a host of top European clubs, his family has moved to kill off any suggestion that he is set to walk away from Anfield this summer. Carlos made clear that his son’s future lies with Liverpool, stating there had been no discussions whatsoever about a possible departure this window, and that Alexis remains fully committed to the Reds.

The reassurance will come as a huge relief to the Merseyside club. Mac Allister has already returned to pre-season work at the AXA Training Centre after his summer break, with his attention now on getting ready for the new campaign.

The 27-year-old World Cup winner had been a constant feature in transfer talk across the continent in recent weeks. Manchester City emerged as the newest club credited with interest, with talkSPORT reporting that Pep Guardiola’s side see him as a strong fit to eventually succeed Rodri. Chelsea were also said to be monitoring the situation closely, with suggestions that Xabi Alonso would only move for his former player if given clear encouragement to do so. Real Madrid’s admiration for the Argentine, meanwhile, stretches back to last summer.

But with his father firmly ruling out a move, Liverpool look set to keep hold of a crucial midfield presence as they build toward the new season.
