Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly secured a ‘total agreement’ with Sandro Tonali on a six-year contract worth £72m, with Spurs now confident of finalising a deal with Newcastle United.
Tottenham ended last season with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton to secure their Premier League status, finishing just two points above relegated West Ham. The club have wasted no time in strengthening their squad, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side determined to avoid another relegation battle next term.
Spurs have already bolstered their ranks with four new arrivals — Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson joining on free transfers from Burnley, Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively, while Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke arrived in a £52m deal.
Strengthening the midfield remains a priority, with Newcastle’s Tonali firmly at the top of their wishlist. The Italy international has reportedly informed Newcastle he wants to make the move to Spurs, and is understood to be willing to more than double his current wages at St James’ Park. Newcastle, however, are still holding out for £100m for the midfielder.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been unequivocal in his stance on the deal, insisting Tottenham are the only club in the running.
“I stand by my news. Tottenham are working on the deal to sign Sandro Tonali, and that remains the case. Deal on. Tottenham — Tonali,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira added further momentum to the story, revealing that Spurs submitted a fresh bid to Newcastle and that Tonali had already indicated his willingness to sign a contract running until 2032. Schira now reports that a ‘total agreement’ has been reached between the player and Spurs, with the north London club growing increasingly confident of wrapping up the transfer.
