Tottenham’s summer overhaul continues at pace, with Roberto De Zerbi still reshaping his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Several first-team names have already been linked with the exit door in recent weeks. Cristian Romero remains a target for clubs in Spain, while Richarlison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Lucas Bergvall have all been mentioned as possible departures as Spurs look to claw back some of their heavy transfer spending. With the club keen to raise significant funds through sales, more exits are expected before the window closes.
The latest to join that list is Djed Spence.
Spence told he’s free to leave as Liverpool join the chase
TEAMtalk reports that the England international has been told he isn’t part of De Zerbi’s long-term thinking and can seek a move away from Spurs this summer. Inter Milan are said to have already opened talks with his camp, while Liverpool, Newcastle, and several other Premier League clubs are watching the situation closely.
It’s another significant turn in a Tottenham career that’s had its share of them. Since joining from Middlesbrough, the 25-year-old has had a bumpy road, going out on loan multiple times before working his way back into the picture with some strong recent form — including his England outing against Norway on Saturday, which has only boosted his profile further.
Versatile on either flank and valued for his pace, energy, and attacking threat, Spence has caught the eye of several clubs across Europe. But despite his upturn in form, it looks like his future lies elsewhere. De Zerbi is overseeing a wide-ranging squad rebuild, and Spurs are reportedly willing to let go of established players to fund further additions. TEAMtalk says the club would be open to a sale for the right price, even though his versatility is valued.
Inter’s interest is notable in particular — the Serie A champions are searching for defensive reinforcements and have already begun talks over a possible deal. They may face competition, though, with both Liverpool and Newcastle keeping tabs after his recent performances raised his stock.
Should Spurs sell?
From Tottenham’s point of view, the logic makes sense. Having spent heavily to strengthen De Zerbi’s squad, the club is now at the stage of the window where sales are key to balancing the finances. If Spence isn’t likely to be a major part of next season’s plans, cashing in while his value is high could be smart business.
Whether Inter end up winning the race or a Premier League club swoops in remains to be seen, but Tottenham’s reported stance has effectively opened the door for a departure. After years fighting to establish himself in North London, Spence now looks set to continue his career elsewhere.
