Tottenham now have a ‘high’ chance of landing £250,000-a-week star, journalist claims.

Tottenham are now believed to have a ‘high’ chance of signing Cody Gakpo, with Spurs having formally registered their interest in the Liverpool forward.

The move is gathering momentum after Dutch journalist Blaauwhof revealed that Tottenham made contact earlier this week, before following up with an even bigger update suggesting that the chances of Gakpo arriving in North London are now ‘quite high’.

Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly pushing hard for the 27-year-old, who endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign at Liverpool, finishing the season with seven Premier League goals and five assists.

Despite Gakpo’s modest numbers, Tottenham have continued to track him throughout the summer as De Zerbi searches for another major attacking addition.

There is, however, one major obstacle: Liverpool must decide whether they are prepared to sell. The Reds could demand a replacement is secured before approving Gakpo’s exit.

With Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Brentford approaching, Spurs could be entering a crucial period in their pursuit.

The club have already transformed their squad this summer, spending heavily on midfield and defence, including £100m-rated Sandro Tonali. Attention has now turned towards the attack.

Tottenham are also reportedly closing in on Manchester City winger Savinho, while Gakpo could take up the left-sided role. With Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert recovering from injuries, the potential arrivals could completely reshape Spurs’ wide options.

Gakpo currently earns around £250,000 per week at Liverpool. If Tottenham were to match that salary, he would become the club’s highest-paid player.

And if the deal is completed, De Zerbi could have Savinho on one wing and Gakpo on the other — a completely revamped Tottenham attack heading into the new season.
