Alexis Mac Allister has no plans to leave Liverpool before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, despite renewed speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City.
City have reportedly shown interest in the Argentine midfielder again as they continue to face difficulties in their pursuit of Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez.
Mac Allister had been heavily linked with a potential Liverpool exit earlier in the summer following an inconsistent campaign and long-standing interest from Real Madrid. However, the 27-year-old is now expected to remain at Anfield.
Unlike some of his Liverpool teammates, the club have yet to open discussions over a new contract for Mac Allister, whose current deal has less than two years remaining.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract, his father and representative, Carlos Mac Allister, has made the player’s intentions clear.
“Alexis is not thinking about leaving Liverpool. He wants to stay at the club,” he told WinWin. “Liverpool have not started talks to renew Alexis’s contract, but the player’s desire is to continue at the club.”
Mac Allister made his first start of the new season on Saturday as Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield. He had come off the bench during the opening-day victory at Newcastle United.
The midfielder also joined Liverpool’s pre-season preparations later than most of the squad after helping Argentina reach the World Cup final, where they eventually lost to Victor Munoz’s Spain.
