Tottenham are said to be deep in serious discussions over a move for Cody Gakpo, with Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg reporting that talks between the two clubs have reached an advanced stage. According to Plettenberg’s update on X, Spurs have intensified their interest in the 27-year-old Dutchman and have already reached out to Liverpool directly to test the waters on a possible summer deal. People close to Gakpo, however, insist that nothing has been agreed yet, either between the clubs or on personal terms with the player himself.
Even without a concrete breakthrough so far, a switch to North London is still very much alive as an option, with Tottenham pushing hard to land at least one more marquee name in attack before the transfer window shuts.
Roberto De Zerbi has made strengthening his wide options a top priority this summer, with the club hoping to land two fresh faces out wide before the new season gets underway. Spurs are already close to wrapping up a deal for Savinho, having agreed personal terms with the Manchester City winger, who is also pushing to leave the Etihad. A formal bid is reportedly already in with City.
Gakpo is the other wide man on Tottenham’s radar. The Dutchman joined Liverpool from PSV back in January 2023 and has since made himself a flexible presence across the front line. While those in his camp maintain that no paperwork has been signed, Gakpo himself is said to be receptive to a move to Spurs, provided the two sides can settle on a fee. Given Tottenham’s spending power, momentum behind a deal could build quickly as the window enters its final fortnight.
For Liverpool’s part, whether they let Gakpo leave will hinge largely on how their own business shapes up elsewhere. The Reds appear willing to sanction his exit if the price is right, and Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Liverpool would move for two more wingers should Gakpo be sold. Their main targets reportedly include PSG’s Bradley Barcola, alongside interest in Ibrahim Mbaye, as they look to freshen up their attacking options.
If Liverpool can get those incoming deals over the line, the path could clear for Gakpo to push through his move to Tottenham.
