Brennan Johnson’s Farewell to Spurs Sparks Reaction After Crystal Palace Move

Brennan Johnson has completed one of the standout moves of the January window, leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Crystal Palace in a £35m deal. However, it wasn’t the transfer itself that sparked debate online, but his brief farewell message to Spurs.

The winger, who netted the winning goal in last season’s Europa League final, signed off with just five words: “Been a ride. Thank you.” The short message didn’t sit well with some Tottenham supporters.

Several fans criticised the lack of detail, with comments such as: “Is that it? Yikes,” “He’s clearly unhappy – only five words,” and “Wow, that was short.” One fan even labelled the message “rude.”
Others rushed to Johnson’s defence.

Some highlighted that he also shared a farewell video, while many pointed to the heavy criticism and abuse he endured during his time in north London as justification for keeping his message brief.

One supporter wrote: “Weren’t we the same fanbase that bullied him off social media?” Another added: “Does he really owe more? He contributed well and took constant criticism — that doesn’t deserve a long goodbye.” A final comment summed it up: “After being torn apart by fans and then pushed out of the club, he did well to even post anything at all.”
