Tottenham are reportedly considering “extraordinary” measures to tempt former manager Mauricio Pochettino back to north London as a potential replacement for Thomas Frank. Now in charge of the United States men’s national team, Pochettino is still widely viewed as Spurs’ most successful modern-era coach.
Between 2014 and 2019, the Argentine reshaped Tottenham into regular top-four contenders and genuine title challengers. Since leaving the club, he has added trophies to his CV with Paris Saint-Germain and later made a solid return to the Premier League with Chelsea.
Spurs, meanwhile, have struggled to find consistency since his exit. Big-name appointments such as José Mourinho and Antonio Conte failed to bring lasting success. Although Ange Postecoglou ended the club’s long trophy wait by lifting the Europa League last season, a poor 17th-place league finish ultimately cost him his job.
Thomas Frank arrived in the summer, but his tenure has yet to inspire confidence. Tottenham remain stuck in mid-table, with fans increasingly frustrated by what they perceive as dull, ineffective football.
In that context, a Pochettino comeback is being seen by some as the perfect remedy. Reports indicate growing internal doubts over Frank’s long-term future, pushing the former Spurs boss back into serious contention.
Whether Pochettino would consider a return is unclear. He may be content with the prestige and lighter day-to-day demands of international management with the USMNT, but the allure of the Premier League — and an emotional reunion with Tottenham — could still be difficult to turn down.
