Thomas Frank Reacts After Spurs’ Draw with Sunderland

Thomas Frank Reflects on Spurs’ 1-1 Draw with Sunderland
Tottenham Hotspur showed ambition and creativity on Sunday but were held to a 1-1 draw against Sunderland. Spurs dominated much of the first half and created several chances but failed to convert.

Manager Thomas Frank said:
“The first half was very positive. We pressed well and created plenty of good opportunities that we should have taken. The second half wasn’t as strong, but we still produced eight or nine promising situations.

The crucial moment was missing the 2-0 goal — that would have settled the game. They defended well, and it ended 1-1.”
The result adds to Spurs’ home struggles, with just two wins in 10 games this season. Overall, they have only two victories in their last 11 Premier League matches and sit 13th with 27 points from 20 games.

On the club’s decision to sell Brennan Johnson, Frank said:
“I fully support that choice. Some decisions make more sense in the long term. We sold him before Mo Kudus’ injury. Timing can seem off, but it was an opportunity to sell a player the club hasn’t always maximized.”

Reflecting on missed chances, he added:
“We got into excellent positions, but sharpness, decision-making, or quality wasn’t there. That’s always the difference.”

Regarding Sunderland’s second-half play:
“They didn’t trouble us much. They scored a good goal, but the key issue was not making it 2-0. Football is about momentum, and we couldn’t maintain pressure. We need to be more decisive in key moments.”

On the fans, Frank remained positive:
“The supporters were fantastic, backing us throughout. Results matter most, and we wanted to win, but we couldn’t make it 2-0.”
