Curtis Jones is reportedly at odds with Liverpool manager Arne Slot and wants to leave Anfield, according to Italian publication TuttoSport. The academy product, whose future at the club appears uncertain under the Dutch coach, is said to have decided not to extend his current contract. With behind-the-scenes tension mounting, the midfielder is said to be pushing hard for a move away from England.
The reported rift has drawn interest from several major European clubs, with Inter Milan emerging as the most serious suitors. The Serie A side are said to be keeping a close eye on Jones as they plan a tactical restructure ahead of next season. TuttoSport claims Inter are considering a switch to a 3-4-2-1 system and see Jones as a prime target owing to his ability to perform across multiple midfield positions. The club reportedly believe his flexibility, particularly in an advanced midfield role, makes him an ideal fit — and Jones is said to have already indicated his willingness to make the move as far back as January, with continued hints on social media. Liverpool are yet to put a formal price on the player, but Inter are said to be ready to move once a valuation is set.
The situation took a public turn when Jones attracted criticism from Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher following a social media controversy. After Mohamed Salah took to social media to publicly criticise the team’s direction following a 4-2 loss to Aston Villa, Jones was among those who liked the post — and went a step further by leaving a clapping emoji in the comments, widely seen as backing Salah’s dig at the manager.
Carragher was openly critical of Jones on The Overlap, questioning his decision to wade into the dispute and taking a swipe at his style of play in the process.
Slot’s standing at the club appears to be under increasing pressure, both from the dressing room and the fanbase, with questions lingering over whether the Liverpool hierarchy will part ways with him at the end of the season.
