“Everything Indicates…” – James Pearce Reveals FSG Position on Arne Slot Despite Xabi Alonso Availability

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are reportedly prepared to continue backing Arne Slot despite the club’s disappointing campaign and the growing availability of Xabi Alonso.

That update comes from James Pearce, who responded to supporters’ questions in a Q&A for The Athletic ahead of what is expected to be a hugely important summer for Liverpool both on and off the pitch.

Slot has faced mounting pressure in recent months, with several former Liverpool players openly debating whether he is the right figure to lead the club forward. Speculation intensified further after Alonso was dismissed by Real Madrid in January, sparking repeated rumours linking the ex-Liverpool midfielder with a return to Liverpool FC in a managerial role.

Pearce, however, believes the current signs suggest FSG remain committed to Slot for the time being.

Responding to a question about whether Alonso would be the “perfect fit” to replace the Dutchman, Pearce explained that all indications currently point toward Liverpool’s owners standing by their head coach.

He also noted that if the situation were to change, Alonso would undoubtedly emerge as a leading candidate. However, sources close to the situation insist there is a misconception surrounding the Spaniard’s status during Liverpool’s managerial search following Jürgen Klopp’s departure two years ago.

According to Pearce, Alonso was never seriously pursued because he had already informed interested parties of his intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for another season. Instead, Slot reportedly ranked highest across multiple criteria in Liverpool’s data-driven process to identify Klopp’s successor.
