Liverpool Close In on Diomande as PSG Drop Out of Race

Liverpool’s chances of signing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande have improved considerably, with reports indicating the Merseyside club have pulled ahead in the transfer race after Paris Saint-Germain stepped away from the deal.

The 19-year-old Ivorian has emerged as one of football’s hottest prospects following an eye-catching 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, drawing attention from several top European clubs. Liverpool, however, now appear best-placed to land him.

Reds Reach Agreement with Player’s Representatives

Reports from France indicate that Liverpool have made meaningful progress in talks with Diomande’s camp, with both sides said to have reached a broad understanding over personal terms. While the player side of negotiations appears to be moving in the right direction, the bigger challenge remains persuading RB Leipzig to sell.

The German club turned down Liverpool’s opening approach — believed to be worth around €100 million (£86m) — signalling that they will not let their prized asset leave cheaply.

PSG Withdraw as Valuation Soars

A significant shift in the saga came with PSG’s decision to pull out of the running. The French champions had been seen as Liverpool’s primary rivals for Diomande’s signature, but his World Cup displays are said to have pushed his market value beyond what PSG were willing to spend. Rather than entering a bidding war, they have reportedly redirected their focus elsewhere — leaving Liverpool with considerably less competition.

Leipzig’s Demand Remains the Final Hurdle

Despite the encouraging signs, the deal is far from done. RB Leipzig are thought to be holding out for approximately €130 million (£112m), a figure that would rank among the largest transfer fees ever paid.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Liverpool are likely to return with a higher offer, though whether the Reds will match Leipzig’s full asking price remains to be seen. Talks could drag on throughout the summer window.

Why Diomande is Liverpool’s Top Target

The teenager’s combination of speed, technical quality, creativity, and goal threat has made him a standout name in European football. Liverpool’s recruitment department view him as a long-term cornerstone of the squad, and his performances at both club and international level have only reinforced that assessment.

With PSG now out of the picture, Liverpool are no longer under pressure from a rival spending power and can focus on finding a fee that satisfies Leipzig.

Outlook

Liverpool’s pursuit of Diomande is gathering pace, with player agreement reportedly in place and their main competition gone. The outstanding question is whether they can bridge the gap with RB Leipzig’s valuation. A revised bid is expected in the coming weeks, as the club look to get the deal over the line before the new season gets underway.
