🚨 Transfer insider reveals the MINIMUM fee Liverpool would reportedly demand to sell Cody Gakpo

According to transfer insider Pete O’Rourke, Liverpool currently have no plans to part ways with Cody Gakpo this month, despite continued interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have been linked with the Dutch forward throughout the summer, but reports have consistently indicated that Liverpool are reluctant to sanction his departure. The Daily Mail’s Simon Jones previously claimed that the Reds have no desire to sell the 27-year-old.

O’Rourke has now backed up that stance, suggesting that Liverpool’s position could only change if two major conditions are met: the Reds would need to strengthen their attacking options with one or two new forwards, while Tottenham would also have to make a substantial offer for Gakpo.

Liverpool currently want to keep Gakpo

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast for Football Insider, O’Rourke explained that Liverpool are not currently considering Gakpo’s sale because Andoni Iraola does not want to weaken an already thin attacking squad.

However, the situation could change if Liverpool manage to sign targets such as Bradley Barcola, Ibrahim Mbaye or potentially another forward before the transfer window closes.

Even then, Spurs would reportedly need to make a huge financial commitment. A bid of at least £70 million could potentially tempt Liverpool into reconsidering their position.

For now, though, the Reds are believed to be unwilling to sell because they simply do not have enough depth across the forward line.

Could £70m change Liverpool’s mind?

Liverpool could potentially find it difficult to ignore a £70m-plus offer if their attacking ranks are strengthened first.

Gakpo remains one of three left-sided attacking options in Iraola’s squad, but Liverpool’s overall lack of depth means losing another senior forward without a replacement would be risky.

If Barcola and/or Mbaye arrive at Anfield in the coming weeks, however, the situation could look very different.

Liverpool originally paid around £44m to sign Gakpo from PSV in January 2023, meaning a £70m sale would represent a significant profit for the club.

The Dutch international has scored 50 goals in 180 appearances for Liverpool, although his 2025/26 campaign was underwhelming by his usual standards, with just nine goals and plenty of criticism from sections of the media and supporters.

A £70m-plus proposal from Tottenham would therefore give Liverpool a serious decision to make. But unless the Reds strengthen their attack first, their current stance remains clear: Cody Gakpo is not for sale.
