Reports from Italy suggest Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker came extremely close to leaving Anfield this summer, with the Brazilian even said to have picked his shirt number at Juventus before the move was blocked.
Earlier in the summer, Alisson was heavily linked with a switch to Juventus and was reportedly ‘very tempted’ by the opportunity to join the Serie A giants.
However, the proposed transfer never materialised, with Liverpool ultimately deciding to keep hold of their No.1. Juventus could reportedly return for Alisson in 2027, when his current contract expires and he could become available as a free agent.
Juventus eventually turned their attention elsewhere, initially targeting Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. That pursuit also fell through, leading the Turin club to agree a deal with Tottenham for Guglielmo Vicario, according to The Athletic.
Alisson was reportedly close to joining Juventus
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, speaking on the Caffè Di Marzio podcast via DAVEOCKOP, revealed just how advanced negotiations had become between Juventus and Alisson.
He claimed Juventus had already reached an agreement with the Brazilian and that Alisson had even selected his preferred shirt number. Liverpool, however, stepped in and decided to retain their star goalkeeper despite Juventus continuing to push for the deal.
The Italian giants eventually moved on from Alisson and focused their efforts on Martinez before finally securing Vicario.
How long will Alisson remain at Liverpool?
There was a point this summer when it appeared Liverpool could lose another key figure from their successful era, following the departures of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
Fortunately for the Reds, Alisson remains at Anfield for now. But with his contract currently running until next June, questions over his long-term future are likely to return.
The 33-year-old remains one of the last major figures from Jurgen Klopp’s dominant Liverpool side and continues to play a vital role for the club.
His experience, command of the penalty area and ability to organise the defence remain difficult to replace, while his presence also provides confidence to the players in front of him.
Liverpool may soon need to start planning for life after Alisson, potentially as early as next summer. For now, though, supporters can be relieved that the goalkeeper’s proposed move to Juventus failed to materialise.
