Newcastle United could be willing to let Nick Woltemade join another club on loan this summer as the Germany international keeps attracting suitors across Europe. Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have already been credited with interest, and now Liverpool and Manchester United have entered the picture as fresh possibilities.
According to sources within the agents’ industry, both English heavyweights are keeping tabs on the striker’s situation and may weigh him up as a squad-strengthening option down the line.
Things haven’t quite clicked for Woltemade since arriving on Tyneside, yet he continues to be well regarded across the continent. Part of his appeal lies in his flexibility, since he can operate either as a central striker or in a deeper forward role behind the main man.
Newcastle reportedly want around €65 million for the 24-year-old and would ideally push for an outright sale. That said, given the circumstances, a temporary move with a purchase option looks like the more realistic outcome for now.
Neither Liverpool nor United are currently holding discussions over a deal, and Woltemade isn’t considered a priority signing for either side at this stage. Even so, both clubs are expected to keep watching how things unfold.
A switch elsewhere could give Woltemade the chance to reset his career after finding it difficult to nail down a regular role at St James’ Park.
His potential departure would be the latest in a string of upheavals for Newcastle this summer, following exits already confirmed for Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, reported interest in moving on Bruno Guimaraes, and Eddie Howe’s exit from the manager’s post.
Woltemade doesn’t carry the same weight as those departures, but losing him too would mark another shake-up for a club badly in need of some settling down.
