Liverpool star Cody Gakpo edges closer to a stunning Anfield exit

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is reportedly edging closer to a surprise departure, with Tottenham Hotspur pushing strongly to sign the Netherlands international.

The 27-year-old, who extended his Liverpool contract last year, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Spurs on a deal that would run until 2031. Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to view Gakpo as a priority target to strengthen his attack.

According to transfer journalist Nicolò Schira, Gakpo is now “one step away” from completing a move to north London, with Tottenham working to reach an agreement with Liverpool. A fee of around £70 million has reportedly been discussed.

However, the transfer is far from guaranteed. Liverpool are reluctant to let Gakpo leave before bringing in several attacking reinforcements of their own.

That means Tottenham may have made significant progress on the player’s side, but Liverpool’s incoming transfer business could ultimately determine whether the deal goes through.

Gakpo would be an attractive addition for Spurs given his Premier League experience and versatility. He can operate from the left or through the middle, offering De Zerbi another proven attacking option.

For Liverpool, though, selling him without securing replacements could leave Andoni Iraola short of quality attacking depth. The Reds therefore appear to hold the key to whether Gakpo’s proposed Tottenham move becomes reality.
