Liverpool’s fresh Barcola bid sparks ‘hijack’ twist as transfer tactic threatens to backfire.

Liverpool warned Bradley Barcola deal could be hijacked as transfer strategy risks backfiring

A leading journalist has warned Liverpool that their prolonged pursuit of Bradley Barcola could leave them vulnerable to a late hijack unless they accelerate negotiations.

The Reds are still looking to add another attacking player before the summer transfer window closes, having already signed Spanish winger Victor Muñoz from Osasuna. Liverpool are also seeking to strengthen their forward line following Mohamed Salah’s departure to Trabzonspor after nine years at Anfield.

Liverpool initially targeted RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, but his preference for Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid saw the Reds turn their attention to Barcola.

PSG initially demanded around €150 million for the France international, prompting Liverpool to adopt a patient approach in an attempt to drive down the asking price.

Journalist Ben Jacobs explained that Liverpool’s strategy is to wait until the final stages of the window, believing PSG could eventually lower their demands due to the club’s growing number of attacking options.

However, delaying the move could also work against Liverpool if PSG decide to keep Barcola or another club enters the race.

Liverpool reportedly had an initial bid worth around £98 million rejected before returning with an improved €135 million (£115 million) offer.

Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele believes negotiations could finally accelerate this week, with a second proposal potentially bringing Liverpool and PSG closer to an agreement.

Steele also acknowledged that a hijack remains possible, although Barcola’s reported preference for Liverpool could give the Reds an advantage.

With time running out, Liverpool now face a crucial decision: continue waiting for PSG to lower their demands or move quickly to prevent another club from beating them to Barcola.
