Liverpool could sign a bigger talent than Mbaye from Arsenal
Liverpool could be preparing to step up their attacking recruitment under Andoni Iraola, with the new Reds boss still looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
So far, Liverpool have added Víctor Muñoz and Ronald Araújo, with the Barcelona defender arriving on loan to provide additional cover at centre-back. That represents a quieter window compared to last summer, when more than £400m was spent under former manager Arne Slot.
However, Liverpool’s transfer plans could soon accelerate, with several exciting young attackers being considered.
Mbaye emerges as Liverpool target
Liverpool have recently increased their interest in PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye after the 18-year-old was reportedly given permission to leave the French giants this summer.
The Senegalese youngster has attracted interest from several clubs, including Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen, while Liverpool have reportedly held discussions with PSG over a potential £45m transfer.
Mbaye impressed during his limited opportunities last season, contributing six goals and assists while primarily operating from the right wing. His direct dribbling and ability to take on defenders have made him an attractive option as Liverpool search for attacking reinforcements following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
The teenager completed around 1.9 successful dribbles per 90 minutes last season and could provide a different dimension to Iraola’s attack.
Liverpool also considering Arsenal star Nwaneri
Despite their interest in Mbaye, Liverpool appear to be looking at an even more highly-rated young talent.
Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has reportedly emerged as another option for the Reds, with Liverpool said to be monitoring the 19-year-old closely.
Nwaneri made only six Premier League appearances last season and could potentially leave the Emirates this summer. Arsenal would reportedly prefer a loan arrangement, although previous reports have suggested that a bid of around £55m could convince the Gunners to sell.
Despite his age, Nwaneri already has considerable senior experience, having made 51 appearances for Arsenal since making his debut in 2022.
His loan spell at Marseille also highlighted his attacking quality. The Englishman recorded better passing and chance-creation numbers than Mbaye, while his 44% cross-success rate was superior to the PSG winger’s and ranked among the best figures recorded by attackers in Europe’s top five leagues.
Nwaneri also produced three goal contributions in just 322 minutes, giving him an impressive minutes-per-contribution record.
A £55m move would represent a significant investment for Liverpool, but Nwaneri’s potential could make the deal worthwhile. With regular first-team football likely to be crucial for his development, a move to Anfield could provide the platform he needs to fulfil his potential.
While Mbaye remains an exciting option, Liverpool’s numbers suggest Nwaneri could actually be the bigger talent to pursue this summer.
