He’s a Blend of Kane and Son: Tottenham Step Up Pursuit

Tottenham Step Up Pursuit of Cody Gakpo, Who Has Qualities of Both Kane and Son

Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their efforts to complete a third attacking signing before the September 1 transfer deadline, with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo emerging as a key target.

Spurs have already added Savinho from Manchester City and are now working to bring in his City teammate Omar Marmoush. However, Roberto De Zerbi is still keen to add another versatile attacker to strengthen his options in the final third.

Tottenham’s lack of attacking threat was exposed in their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend, increasing the urgency to reinforce the squad before the transfer window closes.

Gakpo has also received strong praise from Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola after his impressive display in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle United. The Dutchman scored, constantly demanded the ball and created danger with his deliveries and movement.

According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, Spurs are now pushing to sign Gakpo, while recent suggestions that the forward could move to Manchester City have been played down.

The 27-year-old is reportedly open to moving to London and working under De Zerbi, who wants an immediate response from his team following their poor start to the season.

Gakpo Compared to Tottenham Legends Kane and Son

Gakpo has drawn comparisons to former Tottenham stars Harry Kane and Son Heung-min because of the different qualities he can bring to an attack.

Like Kane, the Liverpool forward possesses a strong physical frame and an ability to finish chances. Standing around 6ft 4in, Gakpo is also a threat in the air and has shown a consistent eye for goal throughout his career.

The Dutchman has scored 51 goals in 181 appearances for Liverpool, while his international record is even more impressive, with 24 goals in 54 appearances for the Netherlands.

There are also similarities between Gakpo and Son. Although he does not possess the same explosive pace as the South Korean, Gakpo is comfortable using both feet and is known for his intelligent movement and decision-making.

Former teammate Mohamed Salah has previously described Gakpo as a very clever player who does not always receive the recognition he deserves.

Kane and Son remain difficult players for Tottenham to replace, but bringing in Gakpo could give Spurs a forward capable of offering elements of both former stars.

With the deadline approaching, Tottenham now face the task of turning their interest into a completed deal for the Liverpool attacker.
