Tottenham secured a convincing 5–1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup, with Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Danso, Savio and Ben Davies all getting on the scoresheet.
Mikey Moore responded strongly after a disappointing Premier League appearance against Brentford. The 19-year-old opened the scoring with an excellent solo finish and later assisted Solanke. He looked much more confident, aggressive and willing to take on defenders, giving Roberto De Zerbi plenty to think about regarding whether Moore should stay or go out on loan.
However, Savio stole much of the attention. The Brazilian had only recently completed his move to Tottenham but needed roughly 20 minutes to make an impact. He immediately showed his pace, directness and ability to attack defenders before scoring with a powerful finish.
His style reminded the article of Heung-min Son, particularly his tendency to cut inside, drive toward the box and create danger. While Savio still has a lot to prove before he can be compared with what Son achieved at Spurs, his debut provided an exciting glimpse of what he could bring to Tottenham’s attack.
Mateus Fernandes also impressed on his first competitive start, registering an assist, while Jan Paul van Hecke looked much more assured defensively and won all four of his defensive duels. Solanke’s goal was another positive after his difficult 2025/26 campaign.
The big takeaway: Moore showed why Spurs are reluctant to give up on him, but Savio’s explosive cameo may have given Tottenham fans their first real glimpse of a potential new attacking star capable of bringing some of the old Son magic back to north London.
