Liverpool have emerged as surprise suitors for VfB Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling, with Sky Germany reporting that both Liverpool and Everton have shown interest in the German international. Whether either club actually moves before the window shuts remains to be seen.
The 25-year-old is under contract at Stuttgart until 2029 and won’t come cheap, having had an impressive campaign last season with 11 goals and 12 assists across all competitions. He’s naturally a right-winger but can also play on the left, which fits neatly with Liverpool’s well-documented need for a right-sided attacking option — making him a genuinely appealing target, even if Stuttgart are unlikely to let him go without a fight.
The need has become more pressing since Mohamed Salah’s departure left Liverpool without a like-for-like replacement on the right. Their summer additions, Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, are both more naturally suited to the left flank, so Leweling would fill a real gap in the squad. Liverpool have the financial muscle to meet Stuttgart’s asking price, but with the window closing soon, getting a deal done in time could prove tricky.
Everton, meanwhile, have their own reasons for keeping an eye on Leweling. With Iliman Ndiaye on his way to Manchester City, they’re on the lookout for a replacement, and the German winger could fit the bill. It’s not yet clear whether they’ll follow up with a concrete bid before deadline day.
