Nottingham Forest were left furious after Neco Williams’ second-half goal was ruled out by VAR during their 0-0 Premier League draw with Tottenham.
VAR determined that the ball had touched Williams’ hand immediately before he scored, prompting referee Craig Pawson to overturn the goal.
Forest manager Oliver Glasner strongly disagreed, arguing that there was not enough clear evidence to justify VAR intervention and claiming the decision cost his team two points. Williams also insisted that he headed the ball between his arms and did not deliberately handle it.
Former referee Keith Hackett also questioned the intervention after viewing another replay, saying the footage appeared inconclusive and that VAR should only intervene when there is a clear and obvious error.
The controversy overshadowed a frustrating match for Tottenham, who failed to score for a third consecutive league game and registered no shots on target. Spurs did, however, pick up their first Premier League point of the season.
