Cody Gakpo is proving his doubters wrong at Liverpool — but his incredible form could spell trouble for record signing Bradley Barcola.
Gakpo delivered another impressive performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Ipswich, providing both assists for Alexander Isak’s two early goals. He now has 1 goal and 3 assists in just 3 Premier League appearances this season.
After a difficult 2025/26 campaign and strong links with a summer exit, Gakpo has responded in the best possible way. His growing partnership with Isak is also giving Liverpool another exciting attacking option.
Meanwhile, Barcola, Liverpool’s £123m record signing, could face a serious battle for regular playing time if Gakpo continues at this level.
Jamie Carragher summed it up perfectly, joking that Barcola could “struggle to get a game with this version of Gakpo.”
