Tim Sherwood believes Harry Kane could be tempted by a move to Barcelona, unless a genuine Premier League title contender comes calling first. The 33-year-old joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham in July 2023 for £86.4million (€100m) and has just entered the final year of his contract, which leaves his future uncertain.
Last month, Kane spoke to FourFourTwo after collecting his second European Golden Shoe. He said the pull of a Premier League return isn’t as strong as it once was and that he’s focused on winning trophies under Vincent Kompany. He admitted that when he first left Spurs, he expected to come back, but the “itch” has faded and he’s very happy in Munich. Living abroad, he said, has shown him a completely different side of football, and while he never says never, his attention is on Bayern for now.
Even so, Kane hasn’t signed an extension. Sherwood thinks the England captain would still consider coming home, provided the club can fight for the title. The former Spurs boss reckons Kane has six years left in him, though the striker himself would probably say seven or eight. Sherwood praised his durability and fitness, and said he plays the game with his head rather than simply racing around to satisfy the sports scientists, knowing when to stay still and when to move, and remaining as technically sharp as he was five or six years ago.
Sherwood said plenty of clubs would want Kane if he became available, but asked why he’d leave a winning team at the moment. In his view, only a Premier League side capable of winning things would lure him back, and Barcelona, who look strong right now, would likely be keen and might appeal to him.
So if Tottenham hope to bring Kane back, Roberto De Zerbi will need to get them challenging for the title soon. With Spurs bottom of the table after five games, that looks a long way off.
