Carragher’s Chelsea vs Spurs verdict is brutal for Tottenham

Sky Sports’ Super 6 has Jamie Carragher picking his results for six Premier League games this weekend, and the standout is the London derby at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham head there after a 3-1 win over Coventry City on Monday, which ended a six-game run without a victory.

Spurs started the season with big hopes after a strong summer in the transfer market and the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as manager. A string of underwhelming displays has since fuelled fears of another frustrating campaign in north London. Chelsea began well, slipped out of the Champions League places before the international break, and have recovered with two straight wins and seven goals scored. Carragher expects that form to continue, tipping the Blues to beat Spurs on Saturday evening.

He also fancies Arsenal to see off Everton with ease, given how well Mikel Arteta’s side have performed all season, and Liverpool to end Brighton’s four-match winning run at Anfield. Coventry City get his vote to beat Fulham, who are fighting to stay out of the bottom three. As for Everton, Carragher simply couldn’t see them troubling Arsenal much.

Over at Old Trafford, Manchester United could be in for another rough afternoon on Sunday when Bournemouth visit. Chris Sutton, speaking to BBC Sport, is also backing the visitors. He faced fan backlash last weekend for predicting a heavy United defeat to Leeds, which didn’t happen, but he stands by his concerns and says what followed only strengthened them.

Sutton points to United’s poor showings across the season, which he says leave them exposed against better sides. He also referenced the row over Bruno Fernandes’ comments about Michael Carrick, arguing it has added to the uncertainty around the club. In his view, supporters and people close to United now have to decide whether they still trust Carrick to lead the team.

He thinks Bournemouth have a real chance to punish United thanks to their attacking style and encouraging recent record at Old Trafford. Sutton even suggested that another loss could end Carrick’s reign, and that even avoiding defeat might only delay his exit.

The rest of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures see Nottingham Forest travel to Ipswich Town, Manchester City visit Aston Villa, Crystal Palace host Newcastle United at Selhurst Park, and Hull City welcome Brentford.
