Tottenham Hotspur head back into Premier League action this weekend with a vital encounter against already relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The last time these sides met, Spurs had to fight back to earn a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with João Palhinha grabbing a late equaliser after they fell behind. This time, though, a similar outcome would offer little relief. With only five matches left, Tottenham sit in the relegation zone, making this clash a must-win. A victory could lift them out of the bottom three and into 17th place above West Ham United—if the Hammers fail to overcome Everton.
Ahead of the fixture, head coach Roberto De Zerbi has provided an update on James Maddison’s condition. Earlier reports suggested several Spurs players were doubts, including Maddison, who returned to the squad against Brighton but did not feature.
De Zerbi has now revealed the midfielder is still not fully fit. While the issue is not seen as serious, Maddison continues to experience discomfort, making a start unlikely. However, he could still be included on the bench due to his leadership qualities and influence within the squad.
Tottenham are dealing with a number of injury concerns:
Wilson Odobert (knee) – expected return November 2026
Dejan Kulusevski (knee) – expected May 2026
Mohammed Kudus (quad) – return date unknown
Ben Davies (ankle) – mid-April 2026
Guglielmo Vicario (hernia) – April 2026
Cristian Romero (knee) – June 2026
Destiny Udogie (muscular) – doubtful
With their Premier League status on the line, Spurs will need strong leadership in the coming weeks. Maddison remains a key figure in that regard, even from the sidelines, but he is expected to continue his recovery from an ACL injury that could rule him out until next season.
In his absence, Xavi Simons impressed in the number ten role against Brighton, and De Zerbi will be hoping the Dutch playmaker can maintain that form as Tottenham fight to avoid relegation.
