“I’ve been informed” – Insider reveals Manchester United’s bold plan to land Tottenham star

Micky van de Ven is increasingly likely to depart Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Manchester United now joining the list of clubs interested in signing the defender.

The 25-year-old could seek a move away from north London even if Spurs manage to avoid relegation, after what has been another underwhelming campaign. Although Tottenham recently moved above West Ham and out of the bottom three, survival alone may not be enough to keep hold of their key players.

According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, the club has identified Van de Ven as part of their defensive rebuild. Ongoing concerns over injuries and inconsistency among their current centre-backs have pushed United to explore new options, with Van de Ven viewed as a strong yet attainable target.

Back in March, Football Insider reported that the Dutch defender is unhappy at Spurs, and talks over a contract extension have yet to progress. While Tottenham remain in control of the situation—his deal runs until 2029—interest from other clubs continues to grow.

With Champions League football secured for next season, Manchester United are keen to strengthen their squad, and Van de Ven is firmly on their radar. Brown noted that attracting players has never been an issue for the club, especially with the financial and sporting appeal of the Champions League.

He explained that centre-back is a key area needing reinforcement. While Harry Maguire remains an option, questions persist over who should partner him. Younger players like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro have shown promise, but more experienced figures such as Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt have struggled with injuries and consistency.

Brown added that United are targeting a dependable, experienced defender to slot alongside Maguire, and Van de Ven fits that profile. He also suggested the player may push for a move regardless of Tottenham’s league status, as he aims to compete at a higher level—something United can offer.

However, Manchester United are not the only club monitoring the situation. Liverpool are also interested, with Arne Slot reportedly a strong admirer of Van de Ven. Strengthening at centre-back has become a priority for the Reds following a difficult season.

Barcelona are another potential suitor as they look to reinforce their defence while closing in on the La Liga title. However, their financial limitations could make a deal challenging, especially compared to Premier League clubs, who are generally better positioned to meet Tottenham’s demands.
