Tottenham Hotspur have wrapped up the capture of Argentine centre-back Marcos Senesi, who will officially become a Spurs player on July 1 when his Bournemouth contract expires. The defender arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at no cost, having declined three separate renewal offers from the south coast club.
Senesi becomes Roberto De Zerbi’s second recruit of the summer window, following the earlier addition of Andy Robertson from Liverpool. Despite being left out of Argentina’s World Cup squad, the 29-year-old is reportedly looking forward to the next stage of his career in North London.
Speaking through the club’s official channels, Senesi said he was thrilled to have completed the move.
“It’s an incredible feeling to become a Tottenham Hotspur player,” the Argentine remarked.
“From the very beginning, the club made it clear how much they valued me and wanted me to be part of their project. That belief was important, and I’m excited to get started.
“I’ll give everything every time I step onto the pitch. My aim is to make the supporters proud and help bring Tottenham back to where it belongs. I want to achieve success here and will work tirelessly to help the team win trophies.”
Senesi Handed No. 5 Shirt
The South American has put pen to paper on a long-term deal at the club as De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. Senesi will don the iconic No. 5 shirt — vacant since Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s permanent switch to Marseille last year — a number made famous by club legend Jan Vertonghen during his celebrated stint at Spurs.
De Zerbi expressed his satisfaction at landing the defender, pointing to the attributes he offers the squad.
“Marcos offers experience, composure in possession and a strong competitive mentality,” the Spurs manager said.
“He will improve us defensively while also giving us tactical flexibility. He’s comfortable in a possession-oriented system, reads the game exceptionally well and has the character needed to succeed in a demanding environment.
“I admire his hunger to keep improving, and I’m excited to work with him. I believe he can make a significant impact for this team.”
A Savvy Piece Of Transfer Business
Since his move to Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022, Senesi cemented himself as one of the Cherries’ most dependable figures, racking up over a century of appearances and contributing significantly to the club’s sixth-place Premier League finish and subsequent Europa League qualification last term.
The naturally left-footed defender brings composure, ball progression from deep, aerial strength, and sound positional awareness — qualities that align well with De Zerbi’s possession-based philosophy. His presence will also add competition for Micky van de Ven on the left of a back three or four.
Landing a player of Senesi’s profile, experience, and leadership qualities on a free transfer could ultimately rank as one of Tottenham’s shrewdest bits of business this summer.
