Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements has suffered a blow after Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford reportedly turned down the chance to join the North London club — even after Spurs were said to be willing to match his staggering £325,000-per-week wages.
With Roberto De Zerbi demanding serious squad upgrades following a disappointing Premier League season, Tottenham have already bolstered their defence with Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Martin Dubravka — but finding a reliable frontman remains the club’s most pressing task.
The urgency up front is clear. Dominic Solanke has been plagued by injury, Randal Kolo Muani has headed back to PSG after a forgettable loan stint, and Richarlison is entering the last year of his deal — leaving Spurs desperate for a proven goalscorer who can operate across the attack.
Rashford appeared to tick every box. A potential £40 million deal was on the table for the England international, whose Old Trafford future remains up in the air. The 28-year-old had just come off a superb Barcelona loan spell — 14 goals and 14 assists, a La Liga title, and a domestic cup — yet the Catalans opted against triggering their £26 million purchase option.
Despite Spurs being ready to meet his wage demands, Rashford is said to have zero interest in the move. Reports indicate he is firmly focused on securing a transfer abroad and has no desire to join another Premier League side. Barcelona remain his top priority, with the Spanish champions continuing to track him even after signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
For Tottenham, it’s a frustrating outcome. At roughly £40 million, Rashford represented genuine value given his pedigree — and his pace, creativity, and versatility would have perfectly suited De Zerbi’s system. With that door now apparently closed, Spurs must turn their attention elsewhere as they race to shape their squad for the new campaign.
