Newcastle United have made an offer for Tottenham Hotspur star Archie Gray, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his squad at St James’ Park, and the Spurs man is firmly on his radar. The Magpies could use the 20-year-old’s versatility, given his ability to play across midfield and defence.
However, Tottenham have made clear that Gray isn’t for sale and have no plans to let the Englishman leave anytime soon. Spurs’ position was made clear following the approach, with no agreement reached between the two clubs at this stage.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will return with an improved offer, though Spurs look unlikely to budge. Tottenham, for their part, are keen on Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, but the Magpies are said to be holding out for around £100 million for the Italian.
It’s unclear whether Newcastle would want Gray included as part of a player-plus-cash package for Tonali, though reports suggest they’re also reluctant to lose the midfielder.
Gray made 35 appearances for Tottenham last season, contributing two goals and three assists while featuring at both left-back and in central midfield. He joined Spurs from Leeds United in 2024, and has gone on to make 81 appearances since, following a breakout campaign of 52 games in his only season as a first-team player at Elland Road.
He’s regarded as one of the most talented young players in the Premier League — which explains both Newcastle’s interest and Tottenham’s determination to keep hold of him.
