Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham revolution is picking up serious steam this summer, with fresh faces continuing to pour through the door as the rebuild takes shape.
But amid all the incomings, one of Spurs’ biggest names is reportedly plotting his way OUT.
ROMERO DIGS IN ON EXIT DEMAND
Cristian Romero is said to be dead set on leaving North London this summer — and that’s despite De Zerbi rating him extremely highly. The Italian boss is understood to hold the World Cup winner in huge regard, but it hasn’t been enough to talk the defender out of chasing a fresh challenge elsewhere.
DEFENSE ALREADY BEING REBUILT
Spurs have already moved to cover their bases at the back, snapping up Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke as part of their defensive overhaul. Add to that highly-rated academy starlet Luka Vuskovic reportedly heading for the exit to Brighton, and De Zerbi’s back-line reshuffle is well underway.
A DIVISIVE FIGURE
Romero’s future has been rumbling on for months. His combative, no-nonsense style has made him a cult hero at times — but it’s also landed him in hot water, with a string of bookings and flashpoints that have split opinion among the Tottenham faithful.
LONGARI DROPS THE BOMBSHELL
Italian insider Gianluigi Longari claims the Argentine has made his intentions crystal clear — he wants gone this summer. Not even De Zerbi’s admiration is enough to change his mind, with Romero said to be fully committed to a North London departure if the right move comes calling.
SPAIN THE FRONTRUNNER, ITALY PRICED OUT
Spain looks the most likely landing spot, with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona keeping tabs on the situation. Serie A clubs are also admirers, but a Italian return looks unlikely — the financial package needed to get a deal done is simply out of reach for most sides back home.
SPURS HOLD ALL THE CARDS
There’s no desperation to sell from Tottenham’s side. Romero’s still got three years left on his deal, meaning the club will demand BIG money before even entertaining offers.
WORLD CUP FIRST, TRANSFER TALK LATER
The defender is currently on World Cup duty with Argentina, and any serious transfer business is expected to only heat up once his international commitments wrap up.
NOT THE ONLY ONE TURNING ITALIAN HEADS
Romero isn’t the only Spurs player on Serie A’s radar. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remains a long-term target for Juventus, while Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin is also drawing interest as his role under De Zerbi looks increasingly uncertain.
For now, Tottenham are ploughing ahead with their squad rebuild — but if Romero’s exit wish turns into a formal request, it could become the biggest story of their summer window. 👀
